The article analyzes the history of written speech skills and competence and its role and importance in learning foreign languages, that is, English. Also discussed above are the differences between writing and written speech. A formal-linguistic (direct) approach to teaching writing and written speech researches the role of writing in the formation of speaking skills. Written speech is one of the types of speech activity, such as speaking, listening - understanding, reading, and at the same time, it is a process that has its own characteristics, different from them.
