This article scientifically substantiates issues aimed at strengthening social protection during the period of economic modernization, the theory of social protection, theoretical and methodological foundations for the formation and development of low-income families. Today, one of the important tasks remains to reduce poverty, effectively use the available opportunities for social protection of various segments of the population and implement consistent reforms on social protection in this matter. The causes of poverty, types of poverty, as well as estimates of the standard of living, subsistence minimum and life support allocated by the state are given.
