In the article the peculiarities of legal competence are determined and systematized. Particular attention is given to the determining distinctive aspects, factors and ways of developing the peculiarities of legal competence in students. The author of the article shows the participation and role of higher educational institutions in developing the peculiarities of legal competence of students.
