This article examines the significant environmental impacts of thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants that generate electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels. Power plant flue gases emit a large number of solid and gaseous pollutants into the atmosphere, including harmful substances such as ash, carbon oxides, sulfur, and nitrogen oxides. In addition, significant amounts of carbon dioxide and water vapor are released into the atmosphere. Reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere can primarily be achieved by reducing the quantity and improving the quality of fuel burned. A global focus in this area is the comprehensive improvement of power plant efficiency and a corresponding reduction in specific fuel consumption. To accelerate this process, it is necessary not only to continually improve equipment but also to intensify the dismantling and reconstruction of obsolete equipment, the share of which in the country's power systems is increasing every еar. Improving the quality of fuel used is also an important environmental measure. From an air quality perspective, fuels that contain fewer undesirable impurities, primarily ash, sulfur, and nitrogen, are preferable. Therefore, to avoid excessive air pollution, preference should be given to low-ash and low-sulfur fuels whenever possible. Natural gas is the cleanest organic fuel. Its combustion does not emit particulate matter and produces virtually no sulfur emissions. flue gases, power plants, solid particles (ash), sulfur oxides, wet ash collectors, toxic, sulfur, nitrogen, dry inertial ash collectors, electrostatic precipitators
