The cities of Siberia quickly developed during the second half of the 19th–beginning of the 20th century. The population caused by mass resettlements in Siberia after emancipation was sharply increased. There was an accelerated growth of an industry, trade, development of culture, revival of political life. The Siberian railway affected the formation of an urban network. Old cities and some of villages along a railway also have received a new impulse in the development. Those centers most successfully developed which were multifunctional and developed not only transport, but also industry, trade, for example, Novonikolaevsk, which promptly was included in number of the largest cities. The main feature of development of Siberian cities was that Siberia in this period becomes region of intensive agricultural colonization. Thus the cities were necessary as the centers of grain trade, trade of other agricultural production, centers of sale of agricultural engineering, centers of organization of resettlements.
