The article studies the problem of the population size by ethnicity in theTurkestan ASSR before the national-territorial demarcation in Central Asia, thetactics of national subcommittees in determining the ownership of the territory, theaggravation of nationalism and the emergence of impatience with the other. Thenational subcommittees, based on their own interests, sought to justify their demands on the possession of the territory and used various political technologiesfor this purpose. They set the goal of taking more territory and providing favorableconditions for the further development of national statehood. The problem wasaggravated by the fact that the center wanted to use this problem in its owninterests and maintain its political dominance over the national republics.
