This article gives different definitions of metaphors, reveals several types of metaphors, and gives examples in English for all types of metaphors (implied metaphor, sustained metaphor, dead metaphor, mixed metaphor) and explains their meaning. A metaphor is a figurative form of language that has a different meaning than the literal definition of words and phrases. It is generally wrong to say something by analogy or simile, because a metaphor compares one thing to another, but in simile one thing is likened to another. Metaphors play an important role in language enrichment. They make the language brighter and more diverse.
