This article discusses the issue of increasing the efficiency of independent work activities of students in engineering and technical higher educational institutions. A detailed analysis is provided on the concept of independent work activities, its significance, and directions for its development. In addition, distance learning platforms, laboratory and research work, project-based learning, and methods of utilizing information resources are discussed. The article includes recommendations aimed at improving the professional skills of students in the field of engineering and fostering innovative approaches
