In an era defined by the digital economy and the advent of Industry 4.0, higher education, particularly in the realm of engineering, finds itself at a crossroads. This paper explores a critical research area aimed at the transformation and reinvigoration of higher education management mechanisms in engineering education. Instead of merely assessing impacts or enhancing existing paradigms, our focus is on the innovative redesign of these mechanisms to align with the evolving demands of the digital economy and Industry 4.0. This study employs a multidisciplinary approach, drawing from education, technology, and industry 4.0 literature. We delve into the complexities of this multifaceted challenge by examining the synergies between engineering education, the digital economy, and Industry 4.0. Through comprehensive analysis and empirical research, we aim to identify novel strategies and frameworks that can revolutionize engineering education management. Our research seeks to answer fundamental questions, such as how higher education institutions can adapt their curricula, teaching methodologies, and administrative structures to nurture graduates who possess the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the digitalized industrial landscape. We consider the role of emerging technologies, pedagogical innovations, and collaboration with industry stakeholders in shaping the future of engineering education management. By contributing to a deeper understanding of innovative mechanisms for engineering education management in the context of the digital economy and Industry 4.0, this paper provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and institutions striving to prepare the next generation of engineers for success in an ever-evolving world.
