Fly ash, a large-tonnage solid waste of thermal power plants, has beenactively studied over the past decade as a raw material for various segments of the oil andgas industry. This article analyzes the use of fly ash in well cementing, as a functionalfiller for drilling fluids, in enhanced oil recovery, as a proppant and proppant coating, inproduced water treatment, and in foam-assisted liquid unloading from gas wells.
