Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder characterized by the multifollicular structure of the ovaries and hormonal imbalance in women. Irisin is a hormone produced by muscles in response to physical activity and is considered an important regulator of energy metabolism in the body. Based on this, the aim of our study is to evaluate the level of irisin in women with PCOS. Materials and Methods: 24 women from PCOS and 21 women from the control group were included in the cross-sectional study. Results. The study involved 24 women with PCOS and 21 women in the control group. 73.9% of women with PCOS had oligoanovulation. 91.3% of women with PCOS had evidence of polycystic ovaries on ultrasound. Insulin levels and insulin resistance index in PCOS women were reported to be higher than in control women (p=0.02). As for the myokine irisin, it was registered higher in the PCOS group than in the control group (p = 0.03). This may indicate the presence of some metabolic changes or abnormalities related to PCOS. Conclusion: These results are compiled to study the metabolic parameters and body composition of women with PCOS in order to better understand the consequences of this syndrome.
