Influence of dynamics of MTBC genome mutations on formation of drug resistance in mycobacterial strains (a review)

Annotatsiya

According to modern studies it was found that in the nucleic acid loci of species belonging to the M. tuberculosis complex, mutations are most often found in all strains of seven structural genes KatG, inhA, kasA, ahpC, ndh, nat, and mshA. It has been established, according to molecular genetic studies, that the KatG gene produces an enzyme similar to catalase and peroxidase. The effect of the KatG enzyme on the resistance of mycobacteria (in particular, M. tuberculosis) to the drug isoniazid was evaluated. The drug isoniazid serves as a "destroyer" of mycolic acids in the shell of microbacteria, the KatG enzyme produced by mycobacteria during the mutation of the KatG gene, due to its catalase and peroxidase activity, activates the prodrug isoniazid, which further has a destructive effect on the cell wall of the M. tuberculosis complex. This article discusses aspects of antibiotic resistance of mycobacteria under the influence of their genetic mutations.
