Arterial stiffness as measured by the cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is a widely available method in Thailand. Data from a large cross-sectional study revealed a significant correlation of CAVI and the presence of coronary artery disease as detected from 64-slice coronary computed tomography arteriography. Futhermore, CAVI was shown to predict long-term cardiovascular events in the patients with intermediate cardiovascular risk.

BACKGROUND: For cardiologists, management of acute chest pain continues to be a challenge. Physicians struggle to avoid unnecessary admissions and at the same time not to miss high-risk patients needing urgent…
INTRODUCTION: The cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) was developed in Japan and is a blood pressure-independent index of arterial stiffness from the origin of the aorta to the ankle. In recent years, it has been studied…
Background and Aims: Black boys (6–8 years of age) were shown to have higher pulse wave velocity with potential early vascular compromise. We aimed to compare predefined urinary metabolites in black and white boys to…
Introduction: Cerebellopontine angle tumors are a surgical challenge to many neurosurgeons who want to operate in this space. Although most of these tumors are benign, they are a challenge because of the complex anatomy…
We have recently conducted a meta-analysis to determine the effect of weight loss achieved by an energy-restricted diet with or without exercise, anti-obesity drugs or bariatric surgery on pulse wave velocity (PWV)…
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and osteoporosis are major causes of morbidity and mortality in postmenopausal women. The relationship between atherosclerosis and osteoporosis has been established by studies of the…
Objectives: To determine the health seeking behaviour of mothers / care givers of children under 5 years of age during their illnesses.Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 439…
Arterial stiffness can nowadays be measured easily and noninvasively around the globe. Although well established as an independent predictor of cardiovascular events, less is known about the role of arterial stiffness…
Introduction: Lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (LEPAD), causing reduced limb blood flow and significant morbidity, is a major global health concern. Understanding its burden and attributable risk factors is…
The prevalence rate of hypertension in Asian countries grows faster than in other parts of the world, where stroke exceeds coronary heart disease in causing morbidities and mortalities. The optimal management of…
