This article analyzes the theoretical foundations and structural components of the formation of students’ linguistic competence in mother tongue education. Linguistic competence is interpreted as an essential component of the modern competency-based approach and is substantiated as consisting of lexical, grammatical, orthographic, punctuation, stylistic, and text-processing skills. The study also highlights the interrelationship of these components and their significance in students’ communicative activities. The findings indicate that the systematic and comprehensive development of linguistic competence contributes to improving students’ speech performance, fostering independent thinking skills, and enhancing the practical use of language resources.
