The article examines the concept of "operational-investigative characteristics" of crimes in the theory and practice of operational-investigative activities, the opinions of legal scholars regarding this area, the operational-investigative characteristics of smuggling, its criminal-legal, criminological, criminalistic and special features, discusses aspects of obtaining intelligence information about smuggling and information about persons preparing who commit or have committed it, as well as the organization of their tactically correct documentation.
