Annotatsiya

This article examines the phenomenon of dualism between religious and secular institutions within the political system of the Islamic Republic of Iran through a political-institutional analytical framework. As a distinctive feature of Iran’s governance model, the study explores the institutional coexistence and interaction between religious authority and republican governing institutions. In particular, it analyzes the relationship between constitutionally grounded theological principles of governance (Velayat-e Faqih) and elected state institutions, including the presidency, parliament, and the electoral system. The article further investigates the distribution of powers between religious and administrative- secular institutions, the role of the Supreme Leader within the political system, and the interaction between supervisory bodies and elected governmental structures. Additionally, the study evaluates how the simultaneous operation of religious legitimacy and popular sovereignty influences political decision-making processes, political stability, and governance effectiveness.
