Metabolic syndrome is a multifactorial condition characterized by obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, which significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The global prevalence of metabolic syndrome has been steadily rising, making it an urgent public health concern that requires effective therapeutic strategies. Traditional management mainly focuses on lifestyle modifications and pharmacological interventions aimed at individual components of the syndrome. Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA), a hydrophilic bile acid widely used for cholestatic liver diseases, has recently attracted scientific attention for its potential metabolic effects. Experimental and clinical studies suggest that UDCA may improve insulin sensitivity, reduce oxidative stress, and enhance lipid metabolism, in addition to exerting hepatoprotective actions. These properties make UDCA a promising candidate for addressing the complex pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome. This article evaluates the effectiveness of UDCA in the management of metabolic syndrome by analyzing clinical outcomes such as weight reduction, liver enzyme normalization, lipid profile improvements, and decreased insulin resistance. The findings demonstrate that UDCA can serve as a valuable adjunctive treatment, especially in patients with concomitant liver dysfunction and metabolic risk factors.
