Annotatsiya

Hypera postica (Gyllenhal, 1813), the alfalfa weevil, is considered one of the most important defoliating pests of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) agroecosystems. This study provides field-based, photo-documented observations of the main developmental stages of H. postica, including adult, larval and pupal phases, as well as characteristic feeding damage on alfalfa leaves. The observed specimens and damaged plant materials were examined according to their external morphological features, developmental condition and feeding-related symptoms under natural field conditions. Larval feeding was characterized by irregular perforations, surface scraping, partial skeletonization and drying of affected leaf tissues, whereas adult individuals mainly caused marginal notches and uneven chewing damage along the leaf blade. The obtained results indicate that photographic documentation of developmental stages and feeding traces can serve as a practical tool for rapid field diagnosis, pest monitoring and educational purposes. These observations also contribute to the regional understanding of the bioecological characteristics of H. postica and may support the development of integrated pest management strategies in alfalfa-growing areas.
