This article investigates the thermodynamic properties of the interaction between sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) and povidone-iodine in diluted aqueous solutions. The formation of interpolyelectrolyte complexes was analyzed using UV-VIS spectrophotometry, conductivity, pH measurements, and potentiometric titration methods. The strongest interaction was observed at a Na-CMC/povidone-iodine ratio of 1.5:1. Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy, ionization, and conformational transitions were calculated. Surface activity was assessed via surface tension and adsorption isotherms. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of new chemical bonds through changes in functional group vibrations. The findings have practical implications in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly for designing drug delivery systems and polymeric formulations.
