This article outlines the author’s views on the study of the ethnic composition of the population of the Zеrafshan oasis at the end of the 19 th-20 th centuries. Also, using a number of scientific sources and literature, it was analyzed that the Zerafshan oasis, due to its natural and geographical position, served as an ethnocommunicative zone for sedentary farmers and nomadic pastoral ethnic groups of the Central Asian region, most of its population were Turkic-speaking Uzbeks, and there are many ethnonyms related to sedentary to the population.
