The article consistently reveals the origins and development of scientific schools of oral history as a method of investigating historical processes.The facts of recognition of oral history in the world historiography as an equal method and an independent research direction are given.The author emphasizes, as the process of scientific formation of oral history shows, historical science, at first critically treated oral tradition, however, the recognition of oral history in the world historiography as an equal method and an independent research direction occurred from the middle of the 20th century, given its transformation into a scientific practice that became part of academic science.In the modern period, oral history is undergoing a revival at a new theoretical, methodological, and practical level as an influential current of new historical scholarship.
