Investigation into the Dynamics of Transient Processes Associated with Flow Rate Changes at the end of a Pipeline Section, Both with and Without Resistance Force

Annotatsiya

Within a non-conservative formulation of the quasi-one-dimensional linearized mass and momentum conservation equations, transient processes are studied in an elementary undulating pipeline section caused by step-like changes in the boundary velocities of an incompressible fluid. To determine the average flow velocity, an incomplete telegrapher’s equation is derived and solved by separation of variables. The pressure distribution is then obtained by integrating the original system using the resulting velocity expression. Numerical experiments are carried out for constant values of the functions in the initial and boundary conditions. Flow regimes with constant, increasing, and decreasing mean pressure along the section are examined. The features of shock-wave propagation are demonstrated both with and without the friction force.
