The author of the article explained the concept, history of the emergence and development of the institute of waqf in Islam, as well as its significance and main tasks in public life. In the course of the study, it was found out that in the historical books on Islamic law there are separate chapters devoted to the institute of waqf. The article analyzes the historical sources of Islamic law, which highlight the issues of waqf.
